“Had Seu Jorge not recorded my songs in Portuguese I would never have heard this new level of beauty which he has imbued them with.”

David Bowie

Things are changing over here…we have almost completely locked up our move to a gorgeous house. Just need to sign the lease before I start jumping up and down.  I am feeling good about the next chapter in our lives and how our time will be spent in a place where so many of our comfort needs (light, space, air, flowers) will be met.  I can’t wait.

Seu Jorge is a new discovery for me. If you like the one above, you will have to cancel all of your plans today if you watch this one because you will be unable to anything but stare dreamily out of a window…for hours.

Whoa.

peaceful easy feelings

I’m in the very early stages of working through Christine Mason Miller’s Desire To Inspire. I was fortunate enough to win a copy in a giveaway on Pixie Campbell’s blog. Lucky me.

I will report more on the book later, but I am already knocked out by the beauty of the images and words.

In other news: Some versions of Paleo chocolate chip cookies are a bad experience, but as far as bad experiences go…

Two quotes have me thinking:

Rivers, ponds, lakes and streams – they all have different names, but they all contain water. just as religions do – they all contain truths.
Muhammad Ali

And this one, which I relate to wholly and fully:

I restore myself when I’m alone.
Marilyn Monroe

I love this song:

Ane Brun & Double Dog Dares

I’ve been “juicing” like a madwoman lately. My new favorite blend is cucumber, pear, ginger and celery.

This video was/is inspiring.

I’d like to invite you to join in over at the Squam blog if you need a little help or motivation in the day to day with short or long-term projects. You can post your need/resolution/intention or what you need to be dared to do and check in every Thursday.

If you read the comments you will be knocked out by the support being demonstrated…women to women.  Women declare their intentions from organizing, finishing writing projects, doing taxes, losing weight or even simply becoming a little less introverted.

I’m not exactly a team player when it comes to my needs and asking for help, but I did state my desire for a little accountability in the juicing/paleo diet area of my life.  I dared myself to make more smoothies and juices.  I intuitively know this is a good practice for me right now.

Go on over…I Double Dog Dare you! If that isn’t “it” for you, I understand, but invite you to share one of your yearly intentions in the comments here. I’d love to hear from you….

In the meantime…a little Ane is always nice.

“Even after all this time the sun never says to the Earth, ‘You owe me.’

Look what happens with a love like that, it lights the whole world.”

Hafiz

Try, if you can, to listen to this song once and not have the words….

the mother of all releasings

Mother of All Releasing, Arizona from Latisha Guthrie on Vimeo.

Something lovely is happening tomorrow.  I blogged about it a few days ago, but now I have a little more to share.

Tomorrow marks the mid-cycle of  Winter Solstice, the darkest day of the year, but the day that also symbolizes a gradual return of the light. Blogger and teacher Pixie Campbell of Pink Coyote has organized a way for  you to participate not only in celebrating the solstice in a healing and releasing way, but also to contribute to the high energy of women the world over by celebrating The Mother of All Releasings Ceremony with us.  You can do it alone or you can get your friends involved. I am doing it alone tomorrow and then on Friday with a friend.

This is Pixie’s video, (the one I shared the other day) and the wonderful thing is that her video has inspired others and so on and so on and so on. The one above was made by Latisha Guthrie and the soulful music she chose is One Voice by the Wailin Jenny’s.

Pixie is doing a generous give-away on her blog, so I urge you to to stop by and take a peek.

solstice scapes

I have a friend who creates the best holiday tablescapes you’ve ever seen. She needs about ten minutes to create a holiday centerpiece on her table that is worthy of any Martha Stewart or Romantic Homes magazine layout.  I can’t even begin to compare my little solstice-scapes, but they sure are fun to make.  I’ve been having a good time using just what I have around here…(crystals, gemstones, vintage jewelry, books and candles) to make little “scapes” all over my house, but the ones in my windows change almost daily.

I did a little writing today, for the first time in ages. I’m excited to share a new project with you, but there is, of course, the matter of some editing (as usual), however, I’m getting close. I may miss the New Year launch I had hoped for, but I am quite confident that by February, when most of us have abandoned our resolutions, that I’ll have just the perfect tool to help us get back on track! I feel closer than ever to finishing thanks to a pep talk from another friend today.

Friends…what a theme, a whole post on its own, but let me just say that I have the most patient friends a person can have. My friends accept me and not only do they appear to tolerate my need for deep cocooning, which can make me unavailable, they actually encourage it.  I’ve tested their patience no doubt, but even if they don’t understand it, they allow it and for this I am grateful.

I think I am a good friend, but maybe not the easiest person to be friends with. So, in this day of writing, sugar cookie baking (for a neighbor and friend) and popcorn making I just want to send out a sentimental, overly exuberant and extra bubbly shout-out to my girls…you know you who are:

the be good tanyas

I have always known that at last I would take this
road, but yesterday I did not know that it would be
today.
Narihara

I’ve been enjoying these women for awhile now and it’s time to share:

textile stamps

via

I have a tiny collection of vintage textile stamps from India and thought I’d make a few bordered tea towels for holiday gifts this year.  Easy and quick? Not so much.

It turns out that mine, carved from wood and not metal like the ones shown above, are tricky and you must have a steady hand. I do not have a steady hand.

If you know me you know that I am more of a zip through it person…slow and precise work isn’t my forte.  I’m on towel two of fifteen and then they have to be heat sealed, washed and ironed.  Whew. A crafty woman’s work is never done.

Speaking of women’s work. It’s that time of year again…

a soft white damn

I have a major crush on soft white light. If you peruse the ethnic section of your grocery store you’ll find seven-day candles in glass jars for about $1.79 and yes…they do burn for seven days. I’ve been using them for years. And, I think I’ll be using this gem for years too:

“The snow doesn’t give a soft white damn whom it touches.”

ee cummings

Let’s noodle that around for a little while shall we?

An achingly beautiful movie and song.  It is cold and gray here and this music makes me want to drift around the studio feeling safe and warm.  Have you seen the movie?

Please say you loved it.

Queen Bee by Taj Mahal

Sweeter than a honey bee, yeah, baby been sweet on me
Sweeter than a honey bee, yeah, my queen bee
Oh she rock to my soul, mama love me to my soul
Love me to my soul, oh she rock me to my soul

She’s a strutter, she can shake it some yeah, oh watch her now look at her run
A strutter, she can shake it some, oh dancing having fun
She love me to my soul, oh she love me to my soul
Oh love me to my soul oh rock me to my soul

Honey in the honey pot and, your pot is hot
Honey in the honey pot and the pot is what you got
To lova rocka rocka me to my soul
Oh love me to my soul, rock me to my soul
Oh love me to my soul, rock me to my soul

Baby won’t you come by me yeah, spare me this misery
Sugar won’t you come by me, oh I know you’ll agree, ‘gree, ‘gree, ‘gree
To love me to my soul, oh to rock me to my soul
Ooh rock me to my soul, oh rock me to my soul

Sweeter than a honey bee oh, baby been sweet on me
Sweeter than a honey bee oh, my queen bee
Oh she rock me to my soul, oh rock me to my soul
Oh she rock me to my soul, oh rock me to my soul
These songs were made for lovers
Lovers and lovers and lovers and lovers and lovers
And lovers and lovers and lovers, And lovers and lovers
My soul, my soul
Queen bee
